Health Insurance

Life Insurance

  • Offers basic life insurance coverage
  • If you are a regular full-time or regular part-time (30–40 hours per week) employee and you have less than one year of service, you are eligible to receive $1,000 of basic life insurance.
  • If you are a regular full-time or regular part-time (30–40 hours per week) employee and you have one or more years of service, you are eligible to receive basic life insurance equal to one time your
    annual base salary rounded up to the next $1,000, to a maximum of $70,000.
  • If you are a limited part-time (20–29 hours per week) employee and you have one or more years of service, you are eligible to receive $4,000 of basic life insurance.
  • Limited part-time employees with less than one year of service are not eligible for basic life insurance.

Johns Hopkins 401k

Johns Hopkins will make an integrated contribution equal to 4% of your earnings plus an extra 1% of your earnings over the Social Security Taxable Wage Base.

In addition, they will make a matching contribution of up to 50% of the first 4% you contribute to the 403(b) plan.

Dental Plans

Choosing Your Dental Plan

Johns Hopkins EHP offers you a choice of two dental plans through Delta Dental.

  • Comprehensive Plan

You may receive care from an in-network or out-of-network provider, but your out-of-pocket costs may be higher if you choose a non-PPO dentist. The two dental plans are similar, the High Option Plan offers better benefits (including orthodontic care) and slightly higher premiums.

PTO & Vacation Policy

You are eligible to take vacation leave after completing 120 days of continuous service in a regular full- or part-time status.

If you are scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week, you are eligible for two weeks of vacation.

After six months of employment, you are eligible to use one week (five days) of your vacation time.

The remaining week (five days) can be used after the completion of your first year of service.

The qualifying date to receive your annual vacation time is your employment anniversary date.

Part-time employees receive vacation time on a prorated basis, based on their regularly scheduled hours of work.

Maternity and paternity Leave

It offers six weeks of fully paid leave following childbirth for eligible full- and part-time faculty, visiting faculty, staff, and bargaining unit employees.

Holidays

Johns Hopkins provides you with seven paid holidays each year. You are eligible for holidays immediately after employment. Part-time employees are paid for holidays on a prorated basis according to the number of hours they are scheduled to work.

  1. The university is overall a good place to work with good benefits. However, it is a large entity with many departments. So, your experience will vary. Find out as much as you can about who you will be working with.

  2. This is a good place to work. Depends on your roles. The work culture is positive. If you are postdoc you will not get the full benefits. That is a down side.

  3. The people were all very nice. The opportunity for a pay raise and/or advancement is limited. People are not paid what they are worth. HR was a nightmare to deal with as everything seemed to take an obnoxious amount of time to get done.

  4. Great place to gain experience but compensation is not worthy of workload. Great management but not enough care about the employees. Nice tuition assistance and semi good benefits.

  5. Great benefits and special perks. Great tuition reimbursement. Management is caring and helpful. They believe in taking accountability so if you dont then it isnt for you.

  6. JHU has a great academic environment. I feel supported in my job and there is a lot of flexibility for teachers. Reasonable pay though it could increase some.
